Left, Right: where’s your compass set?

As a kid I used to think that I was an anarcho-syndicalist, I didn’t really know what it meant, and I didn’t really care. It satisfied my simultaneous need for individualism and tribalism. In spite of the passing of a few decades, and the help of Wikipedia, I have to say I’m still not entirely sure. For me politics is dangerously like art: I don’t know much about it, but I know what I like.

Helpfully, the folks at Political Compass have come up with a convenient test, a few simple questions and you’re all set.

Choose your dinner guests

Although I’d still struggle to expound my political and social beliefs without a couple of drinks inside me, it appears that I’d happily share a dinner table with Nelson Mandela and His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Whether they’d be as thrilled with my company is a matter you’d have to raise with them.
